Where ever you go, there you are.

"Chop wood; carry water." That just sounds like work.

And I don't think that's the point.

Work has to happen. Crops planted, food prepared, body kept safe and as healthy as you can arrange. What your comfort level is is your own thing. Of course, you can just go to a shelter (or hold out a bowl and see what lands in it) and eat what is given to you and you can sleep where ever your head falls.

Another phrase that comes to mind is "One foot in front of the other".

That doesn't matter though, either. The world will move around you even if you just stand still.

Joyous, exuberant, squishy, messy, painful, horrific, delightful life is going to happen, whether you participate or not.

But, even if you don't want to be, you are part of it. The world continues and in the place and time where you are, you are part of it. Even if you are the part that acts like a rock.

Fulfilling your function, whatever it is. You don't get to choose. The story rolls on.

Great lines from Hurlyburly

Bonnie: If your manner of speech is in any way a reflection of what goes on inside your head, you are lucky you can tie your shoes.

-------------------------------------------------

Mickey: Funerals. Sex. Death. I'm gonna go out and play.

-------------------------------------------------

Eddie: Do you ever have that experience where your thoughts are like these totally separate, totally self-sustaining phone booths and there's like this vast uninhabited shopping mall in your head? Do you ever have that experience?

------------------------------------------------

Eddie: I am my own biggest distraction.
